Emergency numbers often receive calls that are not real emergencies. Here are a few examples of when not to call the Single European Emergency Number but other entities:

  • I have lost my identity documents: call the police on a landline to report it.
  • I’ve found an abandoned pet: contact your local kennel or animal rescue association.
  • I need medical advice but it isn’t an emergency, or I need a prescription or a certificate: contact your GP or, during the night or on public holidays, the urgent medical assistance service (guardia medica).
  • I have found keys, a wallet, or similar: call the police on a landline to hand them in.
  • I need to book an ambulance to attend an appointment: contact voluntary associations.
  • I want to know when my electricity/water supply will return: call the relevant authorities on a landline.
  • I want traffic information: contact the traffic police.
  • I see a parked vehicle that is being removed: contact the traffic police.
  • My pet is unwell: contact a veterinary clinic.
