“Where are U” APP
"Where are U" is an app connected to the Public-Safety Answering Points which can be used to make an emergency call while at the same time transmitting the exact location of the caller.
The app identifies the position using GPS and/or mobile data and shows it on the telephone; when the call is made, the position is transmitted using mobile data or via SMS (TBC) if the mobile network is not available. This dual transmission channel guarantees communication of the position whenever it is possible to make a phone call.
The app is an important tool for guaranteeing safety and accessibility because it integrates functions that wouldn’t be possible via phone calls:
- as well as voice calls, it can also be used to make silent calls;
- it can be used to communicate the type of assistance required using easily identifiable buttons;
- it includes a chat function which people with disabilities that are unable to make a phone call can use to communicate with the operator.
The "Where are U" app is available for iOS and Android smartphones and Windows Phones.
